The 2012 Ohio TESOL Conference, in conjunction with the Lau Resource Centre and the Ohio Department of Education, was held at The Ohio State University Student Union. The theme of the conference was “Leading Language Learning.”
This two-day event provided opportunities for professional development and networking to current educators, students, administrators and other stakeholders in the field of English as a Second Language. Prior to break-out sessions on various topics related to ESOL, attendants enjoyed a stellar speech by local educator, Dr. Abdinur Mohamud, who is an educational consultant, Title III State Coordinator with the Lau Resource Centre, and an adjunct professor at Otterbein College.
The conference included 99 sessions from which to choose. The sessions were varied and covered such topics as suggestions for teaching ELL’s, immigration issues, using technology in the classroom and trends in adult ESOL education to name a few. In addition to sessions, there were Exhibitor Displays of current educational materials available for teaching ESOL as well as an annual business meeting held at the conclusion of the conference.
The Ohio TESOL Conference is an excellent way for those who are new to the profession as well as seasoned educators to expand their knowledge and connections in the field. The 2013 Ohio TESOL Conference will be held November 15-16, at Hilton Columbus Downtown.
